Cervical cancer is a malignant neoplasm arising from cells originating in thecervix uteri. The daughter of a kimono maker, Okawa was born in Osaka, Japan, on March 5, 1898 — a year when Queen Victoria sat on the British throne, New York added surrounding counties that would become the five famous boroughs, and the Philippines declared independence. Okama is one of only five people alive born in the 19th century, and all five are women.Okawa assumed the title of the oldest person in the world after Jireomon Kimura of Japan died in June 2013 at the age of 116.
