For rice farmers: two (2) kgs rice seeds is in fact more than enough for a one (1) ha rice field using modified
SRI rice planting method. Wider spacing @ 40 cm x 40 cm distance per hill single dapog seedling (not more than 15 days old rice seedlings).
For sugarcane farmers: three (3) lacsas 3 buds setts is in fact more than enough for a one (1) hectare sugar land using SSI sugar cane planting method. Wider spacing @ 120 cms x 30 cms distance per hill.
More with Less! More yield with less production costs.
Given:
1. one rice grain is .025 gm average wt. Therefore: 1,000 gms ( 1 kg)/.025 gms = 40,000 rice grains more or less. 40k rice grains (2) = 80,000 rice grains in 2 kgs.
2. .4 x .4 planting distance per hill = .16 sqm area. Therefore: 10,000 sqm (1 ha)/.16 sqm = 62,500 hills or seedlings.
3. Acceptable germination rate: 90%. Therefore: 80,000 rice seeds (.9) = 72,000 germinated rice seeds minus 62,500 hills or seedlings needed for a hectare rice land = 9,500 excess rice seedlings.
4. Rice seedlings age: 8-12 days old dapog (not more than 15 days old)
5. Tillers produced using different varieties @ .4 x .4 distance per hill dapog single seedling per hill = 50 – 70 tillers (realistic and in fact attained)
6. Average actual yield using different varieties on different locations on 1st and 2nd croppings in Iloilo province: 100 cavans (43 kgs/cavans) per hectare.
Techniques (how we did it):
1. Rice field should be preferably irrigated and leveled:
2. We used 2 units field markers (rake type with wooden teeth spaced @ .4 x .4)
3. We planted it using modified dapog seedlings using only 2 kgs rice seeds.
4. We transplanted it when the seedlings are 8 days old.
5. We utilized only 10 persons as transplanters in one day for one hectare rice field.
6. We inoculated dapog seedlings with mycorrhizae and biostimulants before transplanting.
7. Our rice fields were only soaked (no standing water) during transplanting up to 30 DAT to avoid golden snails attack.
8. We manually removed weeds 4x every 10 DAT until close canopy. Very easy due to wider spacing (no herbicides).
Potential:
1. 62,500 standing rice plants x 25 productive tillers/hill = 1,562,500 productive tillers
2. 1,562,500 productive tillers x 150 filled grains per panicle = 234,375,000 filled grains
3. 234,375,000 filled grains/40,000 rice grains per kilo = 5,859.375 kgs or 5.8 metric tons yield/ha. (5,859 kgs/43 kgs/cavan = 136 cavans per hectare yield) Using only 2 kgs rice seeds! At Php 30.00/kg rice seeds. Therefore Php 60.00 only rice seeds per hectare.
How about if using your seeds?
1. 50-100 productive tillers/hill?
2. 300-600 filled grains per productive tiller?
