My teenage boy was complaining for abdominal pain, he goes in and out of the comfort room to urinate and take out his vowel to ease the pain. During his constant urination, he experience painful discharge that he experience difficulty in urinating. He complains pain on the right lower part of his abdomen, a sign of pain that was same with the point where appendicitis is located, no feverand vomiting, just that continues pain that occur continuously, the pain can't be resisted by the patient anymore and it doesn't subside so I decided to bring the boy to the nearest hospital and clinic for proper medication and treatment.
At the hospital they initiated two laboratory test, urinalysis and blood test, to find out whether the first speculation about appendicitis were true or not. The result of blood test stated that the count of white blood cell is above normal the rest is normal, this indicates infection. The result of urinalysis indicates that there is blood in the urine. The suspect for appendicitis becomes clearer, we decided to have the ultra sound, but before that they consulted a doctor who is particular for his case and he said that wait for him to check and save for ultrasound expenses. When the attending doctor arrive he check the symptoms and result of test, he perform some rectal test touch the painful part, let the patient bent to his knees and jump, then he finally concluded that it was acute appendicitis.
I ask about the possible expenses if we will stay and let the doctor perform the operation, the cashier says, it is about 75 thousand if there are no complication and will stay from 5 to seven days. If Philhealth will be used, it will be around 55 thousand. That amount is too big so I approach the doctor and ask permission to transfer the patient to government hospital, the doctor advice us to proceed in a government hospital where he is working and he will be the one attending and operate the patient. We have spent more than 6 thousand for laboratory test, some anti-biotics, syringe, dextrose, accommodation, doctors fee, and accessories for dextrose in four hours. The one in charge for endorsement of transfer contact the hospital but unfortunately it was full of patients so we decided to proceed to another government hospital.
So we transfer to a government hospital, upon arrival I handed the results to the nurse and they immediately examine the patient, fortunately the patient stop complaining about the pain 15minutes after injecting the antibiotics at the private hospital, there was a suspicion before we left that the appendix had ruptured because the pain had stop. But he was examine at the emergency room, since there was no pain like before, they don't rely at the examination and laboratory findings from private so they had decided to repeat the blood and urine test, and they had found out some discrepancies, appendicitis became a suspicion and cystitis is their findings. They let the patient to be ultrasound on the part of the abdomen, and there they have found out that there is kidney stone and thickening of the urinary bladder. After three days of stay in the hospital with no pain and continues antibiotics, they let the patient went home without an operation.
We save much money and part of the stomach by taking Doctor's second opinion. You too can have it, do not be afraid, be prepared and be brave. God will bless..
